Marin Voice: Feeling fortunate after 43 years working inside Civic Center

2+ mon, 3+ week ago (525+ words) It was 1977: The Oakland Raiders were NFL champions; the New York Yankees won the World Series; the original "Star Wars" film was released; "Saturday Night Fever" launched the disco era; Fleetwood Mac's album, "Rumors," became a massive hit; and Jimmy Carter was inaugurated as the 39th president. In February of that year, I started my legal career that spanned 43 years over six decades (1977-2020). It included a two-year legal internship with the Marin Public Defender's Office, 18 months as an investigator, special deputy public defender and special deputy district attorney and, then, 39 years as an attorney with Marin County counsel. In 1977, Barbara Boxer (before her tenure in Congress) began a six-year stint on the Marin County Board of Supervisors. She served with the iconic Gary Giacomini on a board guided by Doug Maloney, the talented and beloved county counsel. I will never forget…...

Editorial: Marin sheriff oversight commission selection process is promising

5+ mon, 1+ week ago (394+ words) After years of debate, an oversight commission for the Marin County Sheriff's Office appears to be off to a good start. That start is the selection of the commission's members. County supervisors have come up with a well-balanced composition for the new panel. Its effectiveness will be tested by its broad membership of Marin residents who represent the varied segments, interests and concerns of our community. The supervisors have struck a strong balance.
